Expert Manual Therapy for Persistent and Complex Pain
Assessment-led treatment for musculoskeletal, nerve-related and ongoing pain, including problems that haven’t improved with previous treatment.
This may be for you if…
- You’ve had pain or discomfort that keeps coming back
- You’ve tried treatment before, but the problem hasn’t fully resolved
- You have nerve-related symptoms such as pain, tingling or altered sensation
- You feel restricted, stiff or uncomfortable with particular movements
- You want to understand why something is happening, not just temporarily ease the symptoms
This may not be for you if…
- You’re looking primarily for a relaxation massage
- You’re looking for a quick fix without assessment or active involvement in your recovery
- You’re not comfortable with an assessment-led approach where treatment may include advice, movement or strengthening as well as hands-on therapy
A different approach to persistent pain
Pain isn’t always a simple reflection of what is happening in the tissues. Persistent pain can be influenced by changes in movement, strength, sensitivity and the nervous system, as well as previous injury and other factors. Understanding what may be contributing to your pain is an important part of treatment.
Your appointment starts with a detailed assessment of your symptoms, movement and function. We’ll look at what may be contributing to the problem, which can include areas that are overworking or restricted, as well as muscles that may not be contributing effectively. Treatment is then tailored to what we find, combining hands-on therapy with movement or strengthening where appropriate.
Assessment doesn’t stop once treatment begins. We’ll reassess as we go, looking for meaningful changes in movement, symptoms or function and using that information to guide what we do next.
What working together looks like
Your first appointment gives us time to understand what has been happening, what affects your symptoms and what you want to get back to doing. We’ll assess relevant movement and function, explain what we find, and discuss the treatment options that are appropriate for you.
If treatment is appropriate, we can usually begin during the first appointment. What happens after that depends on how you respond and what you need. Some problems may only need a small number of appointments, while more persistent or complex problems may benefit from working together over a longer period.
Your initial assessment & treatment
Your first appointment is 70 minutes and costs £95. This gives us time to take a detailed history, assess relevant movement and function, discuss what may be contributing to your symptoms and begin treatment where appropriate.
Follow-up appointments
Follow-up appointments are 55 minutes and cost £75. We’ll review how things have changed since your previous appointment, reassess where needed and adapt treatment based on your progress.

About Nell
I’m Nell Roney, an Orthopaedic and Manipulative Therapist with a particular interest in persistent and complex musculoskeletal pain. My background also includes a degree in psychology, which has shaped the way I understand persistent pain as something influenced by much more than tissues alone.
I work with people who are often frustrated by pain that keeps returning, has changed over time, or hasn’t responded as expected to previous treatment. My approach combines detailed assessment, manual therapy, pain education and targeted movement or strengthening, with regular reassessment to make sure what we’re doing remains relevant to you.
My qualifications include Orthopaedic Massage & Manipulation, Advanced Remedial Massage and Remedial & Sports Massage, alongside a BSc (Hons) in Psychology.
